Kevin Weinstein, a documentary-style wedding photographer in Chicago, IL, and a former colleague of mine from The Suns (back then a Copley Northern Illinois newspaper) got in touch with me (via Facebook) about redesigning his website. A few emails later and the conversation eventually turned into a flurry of ideas about his a new website, collaterol and how loads more copy would be the icing on the cake.
It was great to be back in touch with Kevin. I remembered Kevin as fun, incredibly grounded, smart, easy-to-laugh and one talented photographer. He had so much energy back then and I discovered not one iota of that energy had disappeared!
I suppose it is that energy and positive karma that made the entire collaboration with Kevin a truly wonderful exploration in business and creativity. His personality is effusive and magnetic. Through the process of discovery (and catching up), I also discovered we have a lot in common — a passion for business; a madness for details and a serious love of beautiful and beautifully designed things.
Our work relationship turned out to be a perfect match once again and loads of fun to boot!
For development I collaborated with John Knotts of code72 after meeting him at a train-ee class in Portland with Mike Boyink. This collaboration with John was exceptional. His attention to detail with code and excellent communication on top of his pixel-perfect turnaround would make any designer happy. I’m really looking forward to working with him again.
We used ExpressionEngine for the CMS and the amazing FieldFrame extension by Brandon Kelly (I don’t know what we would have done without it!). The website is hosted at EngineHosting, one the best hosting companies hands down. Their customer support is quick, patient and always available by phone or email.
And the wordsmith behind the site is Lindsay Berger of Inkwell Marketing. I met Lindsay through Biznik and have really enjoyed learning from her and now working with her. Check out her blog, Inkwell Marketing Notes when you can because she has some wonderful tips and resources available. For anyone looking for smart, seo-friendly copy, I can’t say enough good things about working with Lindsay.
This website was a collaboration spanning three states and four cities; an incredible amount of trust and respect and I loved every minute of it.
